Celebrate Kwanzaa's Principles: A Week of Unity, Purpose, and Creativity in Paterson!

The vibrant spirit of Kwanzaa is upon us, and Paterson is ready to embrace its seven guiding principles in a week-long celebration!
From December 26th to January 1st, join us for a diverse array of events that honor Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith).

Empowering Our Community Through Kwanzaa:
This celebration is more than just a calendar of events.
It's a mission to uplift and empower our community through the richness of African American culture.
We envision a Paterson transformed by Kwanzaa's unifying spirit, where individuals and families thrive in collective action and embrace a brighter future.

Seven Days, Seven Principles, Seven Ways to Connect:
day of Kwanzaa will be dedicated to a specific principle, offering unique opportunities to connect and engage:

(Unity):
Kick off the festivities with a lively evening at the Holy Tabernacle, featuring cultural performances and a welcoming reception.
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination):
Day two continues with an exploration of the power of self-discovery with a thought-provoking panel of speakers and community dialogue at the Masonic Temple; led by the Paterson Bronze Heat.
Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility):
Word Seed Inc invites you to gather at the Paterson Museum for a powerful program that celebrates community spirit, featuring Roz Thompson singing the Black National Anthem, Rev. Dr. Weldon McWilliams giving the keynote address, and a fellowship circle.
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics):
Join the Juneteenth Committee & Operation Black Wall Street for an engaging panel discussion on economic empowerment, followed by networking and business opportunities. The Black National Anthem will be given by Keica Holmes.
Nia (Purpose):
Empower the next generation with Paterson Performing Arts and Development Council (PPADC) at the Paterson Public Library with a youth workshop on defining purpose and an inspiring call to action.
Kuumba (Creativity):
Unleash your artistic spirit at the Rosa L. Parks School of Fine & Performing Arts with an artistic showcase and open mic night led by Arts Reforming Communities and Prototype.
Imani (Faith):
Conclude the week with a spirit-filled prayer service and closing remarks at The Historic Calvary Baptist Church. Make sure to participate in the traditional feast and gift giving at the 2024 karamu.
