‍Theme: "City of Dreams: Paterson Rising"

Calling all young poets of Paterson! Unleash your creativity and capture the essence of our city in this exciting poetry contest!

Who can participate?

This contest is open to all students currently enrolled in Paterson Public Schools, and schools with an address in Paterson divided into three age groups:

  • Elementary School Division (Grades K-5)
  • Middle School Division (Grades 6-8)
  • High School Division (Grades 9-12)

The Challenge:

Write a poem centered on the theme "City of Dreams: Paterson Rising."

What are we looking for?

  • Poems that explore Paterson's unique history, culture, or character.
  • Creative use of language and imagery.
  • Originality and a strong voice.
  • Poems that capture a sense of hope or possibility for the future of Paterson.

Contest Dates:

  • Submission Period: April 1st, 2024 - May 31st, 2024 (11:59 PM EST)
  • Winners Announced: August 1st, 2024

How to Submit:

  • Entries must be submitted electronically through our website: [website address] (website will be live by April 1st)
  • Each entry must include the following:
    • Student's Name
    • Grade Level
    • School Name
    • Poem Title
    • Poem Text (maximum 50 lines)

Prizes:

Winners in each grade division will receive a special prize pack and will be invited to a celebratory reading at the prestigious Paterson Poetry Festival in October, designated as Paterson Poetry Month!
